Whether it is a motor vehicle accident, or rescuing victims in emergency situations, we are equipped with the tools and knowledge to help someone to safety. We have designed a rescue vehicle, Rescue-29, as big tool box with many functions. We train and practice for Vehicle Rescue, Firefighter Rescue, Hazardous Material, and Low Angle Technical Rescues.
Vehicle Rescue: Scene size-up, vehicle stabilization, hazard recognition and removal, patient care and extrication procedures
Firefighter Rescue: Training firefighters with the skills and the knowledge to effectively self-rescue during emergency conditions that may occur on the fire ground. Escape a dangerous situation by breaching, escaping out a window head first onto a ladder, and escaping out a window or opening using a personal rescue rope, and much more.
Hazardous Material: Understanding the importance of substances and materials that may be hazardous human lives and to the environment.
Low Angle Technical Rescue: We train with ropes and knots and setting up scenarios where we use pulleys and other devices to help a victim that has fallen, firefighter removal and other life saving situations.
The West Corners Fire Company operates a basic life support emergency medical first response team recognized by the New York State Department of Health. Our Med Team is made up of New York State certified EMS First Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians, and CPR trained firefighters. The Med Team responds promptly to the scene of a medical emergency, and administers life-sustaining emergency medical care until an ambulance arrives.
To pursue medical care to the fire district of West Corners, we have designed a specific vehicle, EMS-29, equipped with basic life support tools that can be found on ambulances:
When an emergency arises, and traffic becomes congested, we have a highly trained staff that can safely divert traffic.
The Fire Police respond to all fire calls and help assist in scene size up and apparatus placement, as they tend to arrive on scene first. From stopping traffic to back the engines into the station, to shutting down road ways and advising the community of alternate routes, our fire police play a pivotal role in maintaining a safe fire ground operation.
Our members are New York State certified in fire police operations.
It’s better to be safe than sorry.
We are here to help our community and no call for help goes unanswered. From questions about open burning and smoke detectors to the smell of something burning, our officers and department as a whole are always here.
We respond to the simplest and most complex calls to maintain a safe community.
The purpose of the West Corners Auxiliary is to assist Firefighters in any way we can and to promote and support activities of the Fire Department.
Our members include both men and women, often are relatives of the Firefighters but can also be anyone residing within the West Corners Fire District or residing within 2.5 miles of the fire district line, and must be 16 years of age.
We offer assistance as needed during fires and other emergencies including food preparation both at our station and at the scene of operation as requested by the officer in command. We assist in many company events such as; annual Chicken BBQ, Ice Cream Social, and summer Picnic.
We are always happy to welcome new members at our meetings which are the third Monday of every month at West Corners Fire Station 1 at 6:30pm.
